The 340B Drug Pricing Program is a federal program in the United States established in 1992 under Section 340B of the Public Health Service Act. The Public Health Service Act 340B Drug Pricing Program enables providers that serve vulnerable patient populations to access outpatient drugs at significantly lower costs, which helps improve overall patient care. The 340B Drug Pricing Program has become increasingly controversial in recent years. While its goals remain widely supported, disputes have emerged over how the program operates, who benefits, and the lack of transparency.
