Accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation, WNA has maintained its status as an accredited approver of nursing continuing professional development since 1978.  We are proud of this tradition.Wisconsin Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Our mission is to support nurses in the provision of quality and timely nursing professional development opportunities.

As an Accredited Approver through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation, we approve both individual educational activities and providers to award continuing nursing education contact hours. An official approval statement from an ANCC-accredited approver is a hallmark of the rigorous process undergone to receive approval as well as the quality of the nursing continuing professional development education activity.

Individual Activity Approval

Individuals and organizations can seek approval of individual activities (IA) to award contact hours. Eligibility requirements must be met by the applicant/organization, and educational design processes outlined in required criteria must be demonstrated in the application.  Educational activity content is considered clinical when focused on the diagnosis, treatment, nursing care and considerations of patients and/or patient populations. Potential to discuss healthcare products used by or on patients exist and relevant financial relationships with ineligible organizations/companies must be assessed and mitigated.

IA review fees (click to view the Application Review Fee Schedule) must be paid before the application is reviewed. Use this link to access our payment form.  Payment by ACH or credit card is strongly preferred, or an invoice can be requested (using the form ONLY). Complete IA applications should be submitted within 45-60 days of activity to wnaceap@wisconsinnurses.org. For expedited applications, an increase in fees will be applied as indicated.

Approved Provider Units

Individuals or organizations can seek approval as a provider of nursing continuing professional development. An approved provider (AP) must meet “structural and operational components of the Approved Provider” (ANCC, 2025, p. 53). Eligibility requirements must be met by the applicant, and evidence to adhering to structural capacity, educational design, and quality outcomes processes must be demonstrated in the application.  Approved provider status can be granted for a maximum of three (3) years. 

Organizations eligible to be Approved Providers must target NCPD activities to nurses in a single HHS region and its contiguous states (based on the HHS regions: hhs.gov/about/agencies/iea/regional-offices/index.html). Organizations whose target audience is in multiple regions, or in states that are not confined to a single region and its contiguous states for more than 50% of its activities, may not be Approved Providers. Instead, those organizations must apply to ANCC to be an Accredited Provider.

Timeline for Submitting Approved Provider Application Documents

Below is a list of required documents to be completed by the applicant as well as the fee structure/payment form in the order of submission.

Intent to Apply & Eligibility Verification (fee schedule contained within)

Required documents must be submitted in pdf format with bookmarks (4 pdf files) – one file is the self-study and then one file for each activity.

Activity Files (3) – Activity files must be submitted in pdf format with Structured Abstract from ANCC as beginning document. Bookmarks are required. See Checklist at the end of the Abstract for required attachments and bookmarks.
