Wisconsin is no exception to the widespread human trafficking epidemic occurring across the United States. Nationally, reports indicate that 88% of survivors come in contact with a health care provider, including nurses, while they are being trafficked. WNA's Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force is proud to offer this 5-part webinar series to increase nurse awareness about this epidemic through education, information, and identification of available resources.

- The Zoom meeting platform can accommodate up to 300 participants - be sure to join a bit before the start time as you will be unable to join once this limit is reached.
- You will be invited on each registration form to share any questions that you have about the webinar's subject matter for consideration by the presenter(s).

Victims/survivors of Human Trafficking are in our care every day. Statistically, over 88% of survivors have come in contact with Emergency Rooms services and clinics without being properly assessed. Learn the signs and symptoms to look out for. We will discuss assessment tools and what questions to ask, and not to ask. We will also address safety and resources in your communities.

This presentation will take us through ‘The Journey’ of human trafficking – from how victims get in and why victims stay in, to how victims get out and become Survivors…and how we can help them Thrive! Nancy will address topics of resiliency, recognizing the flags, entry points, and dispelling myths. Her hopeful approach speaks from the heart and lays the groundwork for transformation and new beginnings.

Nancy Yarbrough is an award-winning advocate, trainer, author, and a leader in southeast Wisconsin’s response to human trafficking and domestic violence. In 2010, she founded Fresh Start Learning to address gaps in support for other survivors, with the tagline “Where new beginnings happen.” The Milwaukee nonprofit organization provides training, outreach, and advocacy in the areas of human trafficking response, domestic violence, and substance abuse treatment. . The organization offers a drop-in shelter, case management, support groups and mentoring, with a personal touch which results in many clients returning as volunteers once they are further along in their journey. In 2019, Nancy published her book The Exodus, which detailed her journey through hardships to empower other survivors to build a new beginning.

Senator LaTonya Johnson will do a brief overview of the legislative process, advocacy, and citizen engagement as well as discuss state legislation related to human trafficking. AUSA Katie Ginsberg will present on the topic of human trafficking prosecutions. She will discuss the criminal statutes and penalties for these crimes that exist in Wisconsin, including an overview of state and federal laws.
