The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM) Center for Nursing History is a unique institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich history of nursing. Established in 1973, it stands as one of the few nursing history centers in the United States and is the only one in Wisconsin. The center is housed within Cunningham Hall on the UWM campus. This gallery features a vast collection of over 1,200 rare books and artifacts, including nursing uniforms, caps, pins, and tools from various eras. Notably, the center houses more than 130 nursing caps, representing different schools and time periods, and over 40 capes worn by nurses as part of their uniforms. These items provide a tangible connection to the evolution of nursing practices and education.
The virtual tour will be provided by Emeritus Professor Laurie Glass, RN, PhD, who manages the Center for Nursing History at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
