Meet a Member – Laurie K. Glass, PhD, RN, FAAN.

What inspired you to pursue a career in nursing?
 I’m not sure. I wrote my 7th grade career paper on nursing and never looked back.

How long have you been a member of the Wisconsin Nurses Association?
Since 1971, 55 years. When I was in school it was expected that you would join ANA/WNA.

What do you enjoy most about being a nurse?
Interacting with people, hearing their stories.

Can you share a memorable experience from your nursing career?

Being in the ER when the POWs came home from Vietnam.

 

How has being a member of WNA benefited your professional development?
I made connections all over the state when we were actively involved in district associations.

What advice would you give to new nurses entering the field?
Take it day-by-day. Learn from your colleagues.

What are your favorite ways to unwind and practice self-care?
Jigsaw puzzles, adult Legos, diamond art.

How do you stay current with the latest developments and best practices in nursing?
I read the American Nurse and ANA summary briefs.

What impact do you hope to make in your community through your work as a nurse?
I have made a statewide and national impact through nursing leadership.

What does being part of the WNA community mean to you?
Supporting nurses. The more members, the bigger our voice.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
Reading, puzzles, visiting with friends.

What’s your go-to comfort food?
Chicken pot pie.

Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about them!
No. My dog, Tucker, died in 2018.

What’s your favorite type of music or favorite band?
The Squeezettes. They play everything. If they can’t play it, it’s not worth listening to.

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on?
Alaska and Iceland. Must-sees for everybody.

Q: Do you have a favorite place to eat in your hometown?
Three Lions Pub in Shorewood. I’ve been going there for years.

Q: What’s something on your bucket list that you hope to accomplish?
A: I’ve done most of it.
