I enjoy learning something new every day and making a positive difference in the lives of others. Both my experiences as a hospital nurse and now as a nurse educator have made nursing a rewarding and fulfilling profession.

Can you share a memorable experience from your nursing career?
A memorable experience from my nursing career was appearing in a full-page newspaper photo with one of my favorite patients. It was an honor to share that experience with someone whose care journey I helped support. How has being a member of WNA benefited your professional development?
Being a member of the WNA has benefited my professional development through opportunities for lifelong learning, networking, and advocacy. I have attended several WNA conferences and had the opportunity to present a poster presentation, which allowed me to share my work and learn from fellow nurses across the state. WNA has also helped me stay engaged in issues affecting the nursing profession and encouraged me to become a stronger advocate for patients, nurses, and healthcare policy. I have also held a nursing certification through ANA since 2010.

What advice would you give to new nurses entering the field?
My advice to new nurses is to never stop learning and to give yourself grace as you grow in the profession. Nursing is a lifelong journey, and no one is expected to know everything. Seek out mentors, ask questions, and take advantage of opportunities for professional growth. Most importantly, remember that the relationships you build with patients, families, and your peers are just as important as the clinical skills you develop along the way.

What are your favorite ways to unwind and practice self-care?
My favorite ways to unwind and practice self-care include taking walks, enjoying a relaxing bath, meditating with the Calm app, and listening to music.

How do you stay current with the latest developments and best practices in nursing?
I stay current with the latest developments and best practices in nursing through continuing education, professional involvement, and attending nursing conferences. I especially enjoy attending conferences such as the Midwest Nursing Research Society, which provide opportunities to learn about emerging research and evidence-based practices. As president of a local orthopedic nursing organization, I also help plan an annual conference, which allows me to collaborate with colleagues and bring educational opportunities to others. Earning my PhD in Nursing in December 2025 further strengthened my passion for research and evidence-based practice and reinforced the importance of lifelong learning in advancing patient care and nursing education.

What impact do you hope to make in your community through your work as a nurse?
I hope to make a difference in my community through both service and education. Whether it’s helping with blood pressure screenings, assisting at a flu clinic, or educating the next generation of nurses for practice, I enjoy opportunities to support others and promote health. I believe even small interactions can have a meaningful impact, and I hope my work continues to benefit individuals, families, and the nursing profession as a whole.

What does being part of the WNA community mean to you?
Being part of the WNA community means belonging to a supportive network of nurses who share a passion for lifelong learning, professional excellence, and advocacy. I value the opportunities to connect with colleagues, learn from one another, and work together to advance the nursing profession. WNA has helped me grow as a nurse, educator, leader, and advocate, and I am proud to be part of such a dedicated community.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
After being in school for my PhD over the last three years, my favorite way to spend a day off is being at home and spending quality time with family and friends. Working full time while attending school full time meant putting many personal projects and activities on hold, so I now enjoy having the time to tackle things around the house and do things I haven’t had much time for over the past few years.

My go-to comfort food is pizza. It’s always been a favorite and is hard to beat after a busy day.

Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about them!
Yes! I have a cat named Milo and a 1½-year-old Golden Retriever named Lambeau. Milo’s favorite place to sleep is curled up under my neck, while Lambeau likes to claim the space above my head in bed. The two are always keeping things interesting, with Lambeau chasing Milo around the house and Milo making sure Lambeau never gets too comfortable. They definitely keep us entertained!
