The WINPAC Board of Trustees would like to announce the candidates that they are endorsing pre-primary. The criteria used in the decision-making process focused on those candidates who actively supported and promoted WNA’s top two legislative priorities; loan forgiveness for nurses wanting to become nurse faculty and the passage of the APRN Modernization Act. We accomplished the allocation $5 million in the state budget to support increasing the number of nurse faculty as a means of addressing the demand for registered nurses. For more information go to: https://heab.state.wi.us/features/nep.html.

The other priority was the passage of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Modernization Act. This bill would have created a separate license for those RNs that completed an advanced practice degree as a certified nurse midwife, certified registered nurse anesthetist, clinical nurse specialist or a nurse practitioner. The journey to passage by both houses and the veto by the governor can be found at: https://www.wisconsinnurses.org/aprn-modernization-act-2021-2022/

Those candidates receiving WINPAC pre-primary endorsement are as follows:

Joel Kitchens, Assembly District 1 (Sturgeon Bay), Republican

Rachael Cabral-Guevara, Senate District 19 (Appleton), Republican

Devin LeMahieu, Senate District 9 (Oostburg), Republican

Sara Rodriguez, Lieutenant Governor (Brookfield), Democrat

Patrick Testin, Lieutenant Governor (Stevens Point), Republican

Don’t forget to vote in the pre-primary election on Tuesday August 9, 2022, and the general election on Tuesday November 8, 2022
