Wisconsin Nurses Join the National Day of Action

Care goes both ways.
On November 12, nurses across Wisconsin will stand alongside colleagues nationwide for the American Nurses Association’s Nurses Day of Action. This coordinated effort calls on Congress to prioritize nurse safety, mental health, and well-being by advancing two critical pieces of legislation.

Protecting Nurses from Violence

Nurses face some of the highest rates of workplace violence in the country — with one in four reporting being assaulted on the job. The Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act (H.R. 2531 / S.1232) would require the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to establish and enforce workplace violence prevention standards for healthcare and social service employers.

Wisconsin’s own Senator Tammy Baldwin has been a leading author and champion of this bipartisan legislation, underscoring her commitment to protecting those who protect others. This bill would ensure that nurses can provide high-quality care without fear for their safety.

Safeguarding Mental Health

The Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Reauthorization Act (H.R. 929 / S.266) builds upon previous efforts to address burnout and mental health among healthcare workers. It funds suicide prevention programs, substance use disorder treatment, and education to reduce stigma when seeking help.

Join the Movement

The Wisconsin Nurses Association is proud to support the Nurses Day of Action and urges every nurse, nursing student, and healthcare advocate to join this effort. Together, we can make workplaces safer and ensure that nurses have access to the mental health resources they need to thrive.
