WNA CEAP is a program of the Wisconsin Nurses Association that approves Individual Education Activity (IEA) applicants who wish to offer nursing contact hours for a single conference or program.  WNA CEAP also awards Approved Provider (AP) status to organizations (typically) that offer multiple programs for nursing contact hours each year.  Criteria, as developed by ANCC and implemented by WNA CEAP, determines first who is eligible to apply for IEA approval or AP status. The criteria then delineates the required components of the educational design process for IEA applicants and requires Approved Provider applicants to provide a written process and example for several criterion related to quality outcomes, educational design, and structural capacity.

Accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC-COA), WNA CEAP has maintained its status as an accredited approver of nursing continuing professional development since 1978.  We are proud of this tradition.  The statement you will find on our web page and CE documents is the following: Wisconsin Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Nursing contact hours can be offered for learning activities intended to build upon the educational and experiential bases of the professional RN for the enhancement of practice, education, administration, research, or theory development, to the end of improving the health of the public and RNs’ pursuit of their professional career goals.  In states where CE is a condition of licensure, nursing contact hours are used to maintain a nursing license; they are used to meet the requirements for certification/recertification; and they are used in workplaces that use clinical ladders for advancement.

An official approval statement from an ANCC-accredited approver is a hallmark of the rigorous process undergone to receive approval as well as the quality of the nursing continuing professional development education activity.  To find more information about applying for IEA approval and/or Approved Provider status, please use the links below .
